I have lived – on and off – as an expatriate in Ireland, Algeria, UK, Qatar, Myanmar (Burma), Sudan and Indonesia and have brought up our own two bi-national TCKs. My professional experience and clinical training lead me to work in the Humanitarian field as well as in hospital and care centers in developing countries. My research work included the observation of a religious sufi traditional healer and an extended amount of my time includes investigating different cultures and their perceptions and interpretations of the mental disorders. I have both a personal and professional knowledge of the impact of expatriation on each member of the family and can provide support to those who experience the challenge of adapting to a new culture.
