  • Profile

I have worked on mental health issues in a cross-cultural context with adults, couples, teens, and families. My work integrates Western psychology with Asian practices, which includes psychologically relevant practices from Buddhism, yoga, and Daoism, and Japanese psychotherapies Morita and Naikan. I work with the “whole” of a person – body, mind, spirit, relationships, and cultural context. My work with couples focuses on goals, communication and, when applicable, cross-cultural issues. Individual issues that I have worked with include depression, anxiety and phobias, anger, impulse control, stress, substance abuse and sexual addiction, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, cultural challenges, trauma, grief, life transitions, and personal growth.

I have provided psychotherapy in 3 countries: Kyoto, Japan 1999-2015 and 2018-present; California, USA, 1992-1999; and in Bangkok, Thailand, 2015-2018.  Japan resident 1999-2015 & 2018-present; married to a Japanese woman; taught cross-cultural psychology 2004-2015 at Kansai Gaidai University, Hirakata-shi, Japan; Thailand resident 2015-2018; taught psychology at the Graduate School of Psychology at Assumption University, Bangkok, Thailand; presently student counselor at Kansai Gaidai University, Japan. Frequent stays in India, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, and China since 1972.

My blog at https://reggiepawle.wordpress.com has various writings on cross-cultural psychology, the Asian traditions and psychotherapy, and my personal experiences and views.
