- Profile
I am familiar with the struggle of living outside of one’s comfort zone, while also finding new senses of home and family in a completely new culture. I spent my earlier years as a child of US expats in Europe, and then lived in Japan and South Korea in my 20’s both as an ESL teacher and in the US Military. I have immediate family family living in Japan and Poland, and have experiences life in each of these places. Currently, I am raising children in a bi-cultural, dual language family. My personal experiences provide me with immense familiarity to expats and third culture individuals, as well as the unique experiences of military and their families living abroad.
I provide integrative psychotherapy and self-directed learning utilizing cognitive and transpersonal psychology, specializing in Buddhist-influenced approaches (Morita Therapy & Acceptance & Commitment Therapy/ACT) and an Attachment-Focused Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR/AF-EMDR). Using principals mindfulness practice along with physical movement, vagus nerve stimulation, and guided imagery I work with clients to build self-compassion and find freedom from whatever memories, behaviors, and mindsets are holding you back from living the life which you desire. I am a specialist in the areas of complex, developmental, and relational trauma, and my specialties include helping with anxiety, addictions, trauma, and performance enhancement.
My goal here is to help people thrive and live meaningful, creative lives wherever they find themselves. Current services are given online in Japan and various European countries, online and in person in the United States (in person in VT, online in CA, MA, IA, ME, & NY), and online in other jurisdictions on a case by case basis. For online psychotherapy and counseling, I use HIPAA compliant videoconferencing software to maintain confidentiality and prevent security breaches.
Additionally, I am a trainer and part time university professor. As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Continuing Education Provider, I work with other EMDR Therapists to improve their skills as they work toward various levels of certification and improvement as trauma therapists. I am the creator of the first method of integrating fly-fishing with an Evidenced Based Practice for trauma treatment (Therapeutic Fly-fishing with EMDR (TF-EMDR)), and in my spare time have also become a tenkara fly-fishing rod developer. I value the healing power of nature even if we are inside of an office or working together virtually. The body knows how to heal.
Thank you for making time to read about me, and considering how well we may be able to work together. I look forward to potentially being in touch with, and collaborating with you.
