- Profile
I am a counsellor mostly working in schema therapy approach, with a strong technical background (MSc in Physics and 11 years of working in IT).
Sometimes you want to act in a new way but just can’t for an unknown reason. No luck in building stable long-term relationships. Or, in spite of all the achievements, self-esteem is beneath zero. Or you are having troubles defending yourself when someone isn’t treating you right. Or, your own wishes, feelings, needs are being suppressed to please others. Schema therapy is the approach that works with such long-term issues.
As an adoptive parent and a mother of a neurodivergent child, I know from my own experience how challenging special parenting could be. We can look for some ways to solve your difficulties as a parent together.
Schema therapy was developed by Jeffrey Young as an outgrowth of cognitive therapy, for the patients who didn’t progress in CBT. It incorporates many aspects of this treatment but it adds a lot of psychoanalytic and experiential techniques in order to work with all modalities of human experience, including deep work with the emotional difficulties of the patients.
This is quite a long term approach. We usually meet once or twice a week. It is hard to predict how much time it will take to solve the issues because it may depend on many factors. Usually it takes more than one year but in most cases some relief happens earlier.
After the initial consultation it becomes clear if schema therapy is the right approach. If yes, I usually suggest scheduling four sessions to get to know each other better. And after these sessions, if we decide to continue, we start open-ended therapy work.
It is important for me that you feel safe in the space of therapy. That’s why I ask that for our sessions you find some place where no one else can hear you and you can speak freely about anything that’s important.
