I specialise in resilience; identity and rootlessness in Third Culture Kids; I help expatriates and their families make successful overseas moves; and all the transitions involved in expatriation and repatriation. Alongside this, I work with clients to deal with stress, depression, anxiety, phobias, bereavement, lack of self-esteem, divorce, loneliness, relationship and parenting problems. I work with individuals, couples and families face-to-face in Lisbon and London or anywhere via skype or telephone. I hold both a Bachelors and Masters degree from De Montfort University, I am a qualified Transactional Analyst Psychotherapist, Coach and a Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists: 118342 and the Association for Coaching: ALC0816M.
My professional focus has been cross cultural work for the last 8 years, specialising with working with Adult Third Culture Kids, Expatriates and Global Nomads. I work with adults of all ages, living anywhere in the world. The thing they all have in common is that at some stage in their life, they have lived in a different country to the one they were born in – and this has created problems. Those who have moved for the first time as an adult tend to have different concerns to those who moved as a child.
My clients choose me because I specialise in expatriate, cross cultural and third culture kid issues and I have personal experience of these issues myself. I have lived in England, Scotland and Portugal and worked throughout Europe and in the USA with people from many different cultures and backgrounds. I have clients in Europe, North Africa, North & South America, the Middle East and Australia. I normally work in English and have experience of working via interpreters.
I use some specific techniques to help Adult Third Culture Kids claim their unique sense of self, feel more complete and settled. Growing up between worlds as a Third Culture Kid creates many advantages in terms of cultural intelligence, multi-lingual capacity and tolerance of others but it can also have the downside of unresolved grief, difficulty in forming significant relationships and not really knowing where home is. I work with a mix of transactional analysis, strengths-based resilience, story telling techniques and art therapy to help build a stronger sense of identity and belonging in my clients.
I encourage potential clients to make use of the Free Call option to explore if they would like to work with me.
