- Profile
Sheryl Roberts brings unique life experiences and a passion for helping people into play as a therapist who is interested in the interplay between spiritual and mental health. She interned at TRU Hospice in Lafayette, Colorado as a grief counselor and is working in private practice supporting the Christian/Catholic community in Northern Colorado.
Prior to receiving her counseling degree, Sheryl lived for twelve years in the South East Asian country of Cambodia as a missionary where she served with her husband of over thirty years and their ten children. This life experience sparked her counseling interests in Third Culture Kids, cultural acculturation and adaptation for expatriate workers, faith-informed marriage and family issues and grief and loss.
Sheryl uses a somatic-based approach to therapy which honors each individual’s experience while empowering clients to build resilience, solve problems and approach life with hope and courage. With her training and life experience, she helps clients bridge the gap between mental and spiritual health and to understand the importance of holistic healing which includes body, mind, soul and spirit.
She also uses the Gottman Method of couple’s counseling to support marriages and partnerships which are in trouble or just seeking a better more satisfying connection. Within this modality, Sheryl works with couples for premarital coaching (before the wedding), marriage coaching (2 months to 1 year after the wedding) and marriage counseling (1 year after the wedding and beyond).
Experience and Modalities:
Masters of Arts – Mental Health Counseling, Adams State University, Colorado
Brainspotting Certified, Phase 1, 2 and specialty trainings
IFS Consultation group member (Internal Family Systems)
Gottman Marriage Counseling
Sheryl is a member of the Catholic Psychotherapist Association.
What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting (BSP): BSP is a focused treatment that integrates into both individual and couples therapy. BSP works on trauma or painful emotions in a safe environment. In addition, It can find and strengthen resources and resiliency and enhance positive feelings and performance. Often, we get stuck in emotional responses and maladaptive patterns of behavior that often seem impossible to change or resolve. Through Brainspotting, individuals can finally escape these stuck patterns. BSP was was developed by David Grand, Ph.D. in 2003. For more information visit https://brainspotting.com/
